We are Dwight Allen, David Francis, Joycelin
Richards, Linda Simpson, Andrew Walsh, and Paul Zulu.
We offer training on:
African Caribbean history and culture, and the challenge
of racism
Black lives; health, hair and skin care, food, and other important
things in daily life
Copying with bereavement (death of family members)
Helping people to speak out for themselves.
We are setting up as a social firm.
In January we updated our business plan with advice
from Connect in the North.
During the year ROOOTS has successfully taken part
in conferences and workshops in Bradford, Chorley, Leeds, London
and Manchester. We took park in Valuing People Support Team National
and Regional Ethnicity meetings.
Joycelin represents ROOOTS on the Leeds Partnership
Board, and Paul represents ROOOTS at Inclusion North.
We have made two films with The Production Company
a film About ROOOTS and a training film about
bereavement. We plan to make training films on health and on being
safe in the community. We have all nearly finished taking a Training
for Trainers course.
In 2006 we will continue our work with people who
go to Potternewton Training Centre and agree a legal structure
for ROOOTS.
We have earned some money from our training. We
have also had some funding from Leeds partnership Board, Leeds
Voice Community Chest, and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
